St. Louis — The St. Louis American was named runner up for Newspaper of the Year for all weekly newspapers in North America above 37,500 circulation by the Suburban Newspapers of America. A Canadian newspaper took first place.
The American was the only independently owned newspaper among the 18 that won awards in this competition. It is the only one of SNA’s nearly 2,400 member publications that is targeted to the African-American community.
Winners will be recognized in the October issue of Editor & Publisher magazine and at the SNA Fall Publishers and Advertising Directors Conference Oct. 7-10 in Minneapolis. (The St. Louis
