Two dozen Star employees take voluntary buy-out offer

Twenty-four Kansas City Star employees have chosen to leave the paper under a voluntary severance program aimed at trimming costs. Six people in the newsroom accepted the offer.
Employees with 20 years of uninterrupted service were eligible to leave with 20 weeks of pay. The program was limited to fewer than 4 percent of the Star’s employees.
The newspaper now employs a little more than 1,300 people, down from more than 1,800 seven years ago.
