Springfield paper files for dismissal of libel lawsuit

The Springfield Business Journal and two Branson businessmen have filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit against them alleging they libeled and slandered a man who claims that taxation is un-
Christian and illegal.
They want the suit dismissed for lack of merit.
The two defendants have pleaded guilty in federal court to tax evasion and have paid their debts. They were on a speaking tour for the government discouraging others from getting involved
in illicit tax protests when they were interviewed by the Springfield Business Journal.
Comments in the resulting story led to the lawsuit. The plaintiff seeks $1 million from each of six defendants.    —from the Springfield News-Leader
