Jennings retires from Sedalia Democrat

In 35 years at The Sedalia Democrat, Ron Jennings built a loyal readership. Those readers now will have to get along without Jennings’ stories. He retired in September.
On Jennings’ 30th anniversary with the Democrat, Congressman Ike Skelton read a statement into the Congressional Record marking Jennings’ commitment to journalism and the community.
Jennings, a native of Stanberry, said he made it his mission to seek out the stories that others might pass by. “All I had to do was walk out my front door. The stories were all right here,” he told Democrat reporter Dennis Rich.
He recalled writing about Joe Labille, the last milkman in Sedalia who made daily deliveries, and talking to children who mourned the loss of “Joe’s milk.”
Since 1990, Jennings has won, through surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, a number of bouts with brain cancer. He shared those experiences with readers.
