Mound City News sold to son of Tarkio publisher

Mound City News Inc., owned by Linda and Chris Boultinghouse, sold the Mound City News to Adam Johnson, Tarkio, effective Nov. 30.
Johnson is a graduate of Tarkio High School. He studied business and aviation technology at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg and majored in business economics at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville.
Johnson has a commercial pilot’s license and is a certified flight instructor. His parents, Will and Joy Johnson, have owned The Tarkio Avalanche since 1981 and The Fairfax Forum since 1998. His cousins, W.C. and Mike Farmer, publish the Atchison County Mail in Rock Port. Adam grew up working at various jobs at The Avalanche.
The Boultinghouses bought the Mound City News-Independent from Roy Sims in 1990. Chris, a Minnesota native, and Linda, who grew up near Kirksville, worked at daily newspapers in Wisconsin and Connecticut before buying the Mound City paper. They plan to stay in Mound City.
