Randy Cope resigns from Gatehouse
Randy Cope, a former publisher of the Neosho Daily News, resigned as co-chief operating officer of GateHouse Media, effective Jan. 28.
Cope’s resignation ended five decades of his family’s involvement with the Daily News. In 1952, Cope’s grandfather, Howard W. Bush, took the reins of the Neosho Daily Democrat and renamed it the Neosho Daily News.
Cope’s father, Kenneth, became publisher of the paper when Bush died in 1969. Kenneth and his wife, Anne, became sole owners in 1983. He served as publisher and she as editor until she retired in 1991.
In 1987 the Copes sold the paper to American Publishing Co. Kenneth remained publisher until taking another position with American Publishing. Randy Cope then became publisher. In 2005 Randy was named co-president of what had been renamed Liberty Publishing Co. The company again was renamed, becoming GateHouse Media.
Cope named Rick Rogers publisher of the Daily News in 2005.
Randy, his wife, Pam, and three children live in Joplin.
